If you want to get a taste of traditional California countryside, then Edna Valley is the right place for you. Located just a short drive up the hill from the ocean, Edna Valley is a peaceful and beautiful region in the California Central Coast area. While not boasting any famous California tourist attractions or landmarks, Edna Valley is home to several famous California wineries as well as several typical California horse ranches.
My favorite tourist attractions in Edna Valley
It really depends on how much time you have to spend in the area. We just drove around the area and stopped at several points on the road to admire the scenery and take pictures.

- Stop and visit some of the beautiful wineries along Edna Road.
- Drive along Edna Road and admire the scenery. Make sure you drive slowly so you have time to look around. It is a beautiful drive.
- Stop at Lake Lopez. You can enter the Lake Lopes park area for free if you don’t stay more than 40 minutes. So you have some time to drive a bit around the lake and admire it. The drive to Lake Lopez is very scenic as well.
Driving around Edna Valley is very relaxing
Coming up Price Canyon Road from Pismo Beach took us on a windy mountain road until we reached Edna Valley. In Edna Valley, the landscape turns from steep hills to beautiful rolling hills. It reminded me a lot of driving through the Champagne region of France. It was just not as green as France, but very similar in landscape.
We took a right on Edna Road and drove all the way to Arroyo Grande on Carpenter Canyon Road and then all the way to Lopez Lake. Every twist in the road was revealing more and more beautiful hills covered with trees and grass. in addition, we saw many traditional California ranches, complete with a ranch house, stables and horses.
Stop at beautiful Lake Lopez
We decided not to stop at any wineries in Edna Valley and instead drive a little further east to Lake Lopez. I think that was a good decision because the drive into Lake Lopez very very dramatic and once we reached Lake Lopez we were greeted by many deer who were grazing right next to the parking lot. They didn’t seem to care that we were literally a few feet away from them. Our kids were delighted to see so many “Bamby” roaming around. Too bad we couldn’t stay longer.
How to get to Edna Valley
Edna Valley is a region of the Central California Coast, in San Luis Obispo county, nestled between hills and benefiting from the ocean breeze. It is not a precisely defined region, but it starts somewhere south of the city of San Luis Obispo and it ends somewhere east of Pismo Beach and Arroyo Grande areas. It goes as far east as beautiful Lopez lake. To put it in simpler terms, Edna Valley spreads around Edna Road from San Luis Obispo to Arroyo Grande.
So, how do you get to Edna Valley? Well, you just have to find Edna Road. We found Edna Road coming east from Pismo Beach on Price Canyon Road. Price Canyon Road meets Edna Road pretty much in the middle of Edna Valley, so it’s a safe way to make sure you reach Edna Valley.

Tourist conclusion on Edna Valley
We loved our drive around Edna Valley. If we would have had more time and be able to visit one of the wineries, I think we would have liked it even more. If we could’ve stayed at Lake Lopez longer, it would have been perfect. So, it really depends on how much time you have to spend in the area. However, even if you don’t have a lot of time, I think driving around Edna Road is worth the time and effort to get there.
